Clinic Description

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 11:00AM MST ON WEDNESDAY, January 30, 2019

All contact teams require an active Level 200 Coach to be in compliance with USA Rugby.

The Level 200 Coach Certification consists of online pre-course work and attendance at an in-person clinic. The course structure helps to blend the “how to coach” theory with the practical implementation of player centered coaching Rugby.

The Level 200 Coach Certification is an introductory coaching clinic, which focuses on player welfare and the technical skills to play safely – specifically the tackle and the scrum. The assessment requires coaches to demonstrate effective coaching techniques, taught in the course. These techniques include teaching through games, technical skill development through progressions, and collaborative coaching. This course is suitable for all experience levels and will likely comprise a mix of veteran players/coaches and those new to the game – each benefitting from a free exchange of ideas/experience.

What do I have to do to complete the Level 200?

1. Complete the Level 100: World Rugby - Rugby Ready (click here) (and email to Education@USARugby.org)

***You will not be able to register for the clinic until the Level 100 Rugby Ready Certificate has been added to your account**

2. Complete the Level 200 online pre-course work (click here) – essential if you’re relatively new to the sport.

3. Attend the 1 day in person Level 200 clinic and demonstrate all course competencies.

What to Expect:
This introductory coaching clinic will be delivered by some of our top course educators and we are sure you will have a great learning experience! Come prepared to be stretched and challenged in your coaching methods and process. This clinic focuses a significant amount of time on safety in the tackle and scrum as well as the coaching process, which can be universally applied to all levels of play. It is not intended to be a tactical clinic for backs/forwards etc. Nor will it give you a practice plan for your club –rather, this clinic will provide the tools and foundation to support your players as you build and develop your own program.

What to Bring:
You will receive the electronic L200 manual Thursday prior to the clinic.  Please print this manual and bring it to the clinic. If you are more comfortable viewing this on your e-reader/tablet the day of, you are welcome to, but there will not be extra hard copies. If you elect not to print the entire manual, you still must bring a printed copy of page 4 (USA Rugby Level 200 Coaching Assessment) in order to check off your competencies. Please bring a pen or pencil to take notes.

A portion of the workshop will be in the classroom, but the majority is on the pitch or in a gym. Coaches will be asked to role-play as players during portions of the practical sessions. Please be ready to partake in physical activity inside and/or outside. Make sure you wear active clothing, proper gym shoes or cleats, and weather appropriate attire. Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen and a water bottle as well.

Post – Clinic Certification:

Upon achieving course standards for the in person course, the educator will submit the final roster to USA Rugby.  Your L200 coaching certification will be added to your USA Rugby Membership profile as well as uploaded to World Rugby for their records. If you need it sooner or have any questions, please contact education@usarugby.org.
