World Rugby Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Course Presented by USA Rugby

This Level 1 Strength and Conditioning course is designed to provide beginners with basic knowledge and understanding of strength and conditioning and a foundation of practical skills. The course will expand on the physical conditioning content in the Rugby Ready course.

Within its six modules, the Level 1 course will address eight key topics:

• Long Term Player Development Pathway

• Functional screening¨

• Anatomical Adaptation¨

• Demands of the game

• Principles of training¨

• Speed and intermittent sprint endurance

• Periodization¨

• Recovery

What do I have to do to complete the Level 1 S&C?

  1. Completed the online World Rugby Level 100 Rugby Ready course (email completed certification to education@usarugby.org)
  2. Complete the online World Rugby Level 1 Strength and Conditioning Pre-Level 1 module (print certificate and bring a copy of the completion certificate to the clinic)
  3. Attend and achieve competencies during the in-person Level 1 Strength and Conditioning course.

**For current coaches registered with USA Rugby, this course will be worth 10 Professional Development Credits towards an active certification in the current membership cycle.

Who is best suited to attend the Level 1 S&C?

It is intended for all ages and abilities; participants do not need to have previous experience in Strength & Conditioning. Coaches, referees, and players will find it most directly applicable; however, administrators, parents, and others involved with rugby will also gain a significant amount of knowledge.
